Alfajor is a traditional South American cookie filled with "dulce de leche". It's consistency is of a shortbread cookie and it's characteristic is that it dissolves in your mouth.

Coming originally from the Mid East, the name Alfajor is derived from Arabic al-hasu, which means "stuffed" or "filled". It arrived to South America in the mid 19th century. Today you can find them in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, everyone with its own variation of the alfajor.

It's delicate look makes it a perfect treat for special occasions as well as a great delicacy to enjoy with a cup of coffee, tea or milk for the little ones.
